On September 28, President of the Republic of the Philippines Rodrigo Roa Duterte began an official visit to Vietnam from September 28-29 at the invitation of President Tran Dai Quang.

This is President Rodrigo Roa Duterte's first visit to Vietnam and his fourth foreign trip since taking office (June 30, 2016).
Accompanying President Rodrigo Roa Duterte were Foreign Affairs Secretary Perfecto R. Yasay; Justice Secretary Vitaliano N. Aguirre; Trade and Industry Secretary Ramon M. Lopez; National Security Adviser Hermogenes C. Esperon; Senator Alan Peter S. Cayetano; Presidential Communications Secretary Jose Ruperto Martin M. Andanar; Cabinet Secretary in charge of food issues Leoncio Padilla Evasco; Philippine Ambassador to Hanoi Noel Servigon.
President of the Republic of the Philippines Rodrigo Roa Duterte was born on March 28, 1945, in Leyte, Philippines, with a bachelor's degree in Political Science from the Lyceum of the Philippines (1986).
During his career, from 1977 to 1986, Mr. Rodrigo Roa Duterte worked at the Office of the Prosecutor, Davao City, Southern Philippines; from 1986 to 1987, he was Vice Mayor of Davao City.
In 1988-1998, he was Mayor of Davao City. In 1998-2001, he was Representative of the 1st District of Davao City. In 2001-2010, he was Mayor of Davao City. In 2010-2013, he was Vice Mayor of Davao City.
From 2013 to 2016, he was Mayor of Davao City. On June 30, 2016, he was sworn in as the 16th President of the Philippines.
During the official visit to Vietnam by President of the Republic of the Philippines Rodrigo Roa Duterte, the two sides will discuss directions and measures to promote the strategic partnership in the coming time, especially in politics, security, defense, economy, trade, etc. In addition, the two sides will discuss international and regional issues of mutual concern.
