(Baonghean.vn)- On August 31, the Brazilian Senate officially voted to impeach suspended President Dilma Rousseff, and the government of interim President Michel Temer will rule until the end of Ms. Rousseff's current term in December 2018.

After 5 days of political impeachment trial against Ms. Rousseff, in the early morning of August 31 local time, with 61 votes in favor and 20 votes against, the Brazilian Senate officially passed the decision to impeach Ms. Rousseff for allegedly concealing public spending accounts.

She is the first female Brazilian President to be impeached by the Senate, ending 13 years of rule by the leftist Workers' Party (PT). Interim President Michel Temer will rule until the end of 2018.

A separate vote will also be held to decide whether Ms Rousseff should be banned from holding other public office for eight years.

Both Ms. Rousseff and Mr. Temer are scheduled to speak on September 1 to end the eight-month process that has paralyzed Brazilian politics and prolonged the worst economic crisis in a century in this South American country.

Also on September 1, the inauguration ceremony of the new President will take place in a shortened form, because the new President will immediately fly to China to attend the G20 summit.

President Rousseff has repeatedly stated that if the Senate votes to impeach her, it would be a coup, damaging Brazilian democracy. She also called for a referendum on the possibility of holding early elections, giving the power to decide who will lead the country's future to the people.

President Rousseff has been suspended from office since last May, due to allegations of violating fiscal responsibility laws to "beautify" statistical figures to reduce the 2014 budget deficit and using additional funds not included in the budget estimate without the consent of the National Assembly.
