A typical example is the household of Mr. Nguyen Xuan Tinh in Block 13, Mai Hung Ward, which has 3 sao of high-altitude land. Previously, he only grew corn in the spring and summer-autumn seasons, with low productivity. After being trained in the application of scientific and technological advances, he chose the CP999 hybrid corn variety, with a main crop yield of 4 quintals/sao and an off-season yield of 3.5 quintals/sao. The conversion of crop structure is also adjusted to suit local production conditions. Mai Hung Ward has over 400 hectares of land for growing various agricultural crops, previously mainly producing 2 crops, with income value reaching only over 50 million VND/ha. Faced with this situation, the Ward Party Committee held a meeting and assigned the Commune Agriculture Board to conduct a survey of the current land status and increase crop seasons. Currently, people combine 2 rice crops + 1 corn crop; and on high land, people grow 2 corn crops + 1 vegetable crop, the land is intensively cultivated year-round.
Thanks to that, the proportion of agricultural production in the ward accounts for 40% of the economic structure. The annual economic growth rate reaches 14%, the average income per capita reaches 29 million VND/year, the poverty rate in 2014 was 10.3%, now it has decreased to 6.8%. The material and spiritual life of the people is constantly improving, contributing to changing the appearance of the new urban area.
Mr. Van Duc Luc - Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of Mai Hung Ward said: To implement the key program on agricultural development, the ward has issued mechanisms and policies to encourage farmers to invest in production development, apply high technology, ensure food hygiene and safety, focus on land consolidation and plot exchange to increase productivity and product quality. At the same time, cooperatives are assigned to select high-yield and high-quality varieties of plants, livestock and aquatic products for mass production. |
