A sudden tornado ripped the roofs off dozens of houses.
(Baonghean.vn) - On the morning of September 13th, heavy rain and strong tornadoes struck Nghi Van and Nghi Thai communes (Nghi Loc district, Nghe An province), causing significant damage. Initial reports indicate one person was injured, nearly 30 houses had their roofs blown off, three high-voltage power poles were broken, and large areas of crops were damaged.
Tornadoes and localized thunderstorms occurred unexpectedly, catching many households in the Nam Ky La and Bac Ky La hamlets of Nghi Van commune off guard.

In Bac Ky La hamlet, Mr. Nguyen Huy Giap's family was one of the most severely affected households. Mr. Giap stated that the tornado destroyed the roof of a 55m² single-story house, and knocked down the entire kitchen, outbuildings, livestock and poultry sheds, and all the trees and crops in the garden. Initial estimates put the damage at nearly 100 million VND.

According to a preliminary report from the People's Committee of Nghi Van commune, the tornado injured one resident, who is currently receiving emergency treatment at the hospital; nearly 30 houses had their roofs blown off, and boundary walls collapsed. The tornado also broke three high-voltage power poles in Hamlet 11 of Nghi Van commune. 300 hectares of rice and 15 hectares of corn were flattened. Trees in the residential area were also broken or uprooted.

Mr. Le Viet Tuan, Secretary of the Party Committee of Nghi Van commune, Nghi Loc district, said: "The damage caused by the storm is estimated at nearly 1 billion VND. The biggest difficulty for the commune right now is the complete power outage. Many trees have been uprooted, so we are currently mobilizing forces and equipment such as chainsaws to help people clear the debris and ensure safe and convenient travel for the residents."
Immediately after the tornado struck, Party committees and authorities at all levels promptly arrived to encourage the people and find ways to mitigate the consequences. They directed villages to compile and report the damage so that the commune could report it to higher levels. At the same time, they mobilized local forces to help people overcome the consequences and stabilize their lives.

Comrade Dinh Thi Tam, Deputy Secretary of the Nghi Loc District Party Committee, added: "After receiving news of a tornado affecting several hamlets in Nghi Van commune, we went down to inspect the situation and directed relevant departments and organizations to mobilize forces to help people overcome the consequences and stabilize their lives. The immediate priority is repairing roofs, cutting down fallen trees, and taking the injured to the hospital... At the same time, we instructed the commune to compile a damage report and submit it to the District People's Committee as soon as possible."

Thai Quang hamlet in Nghi Thai commune, the epicenter of the tornado, suffered heavy damage, with 14 houses having their roofs blown off or severely damaged. Additionally, Thai Binh hamlet had 4 houses and Thai Cat hamlet had 3 houses with damaged roofs.
