Large areas of rice fields were damaged by lodging, affecting yields.
Taking advantage of the sunny weather, farmers are heading to the fields to tie up and prop up their rice plants because they are not yet ripe enough for harvest. Due to flooding while the rice grains were still green, there is a high chance of empty grains, affecting yield. In addition, vegetables such as sweet cabbage, regular cabbage, and chayote are also severely affected, suffering from root rot and stem rot, forcing farmers to harvest them prematurely or uproot them and replace them with new seedlings.

Hundreds of hectares of corn were flattened and uprooted after heavy rains.
According to statistics, in Nghi Loc district, the past three days of heavy rain and storms have damaged 800 hectares of corn, 400 hectares of peanuts, 150 hectares of vegetables, and submerged 1,000 hectares of rice. To mitigate the damage caused by the storm, the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development promptly disseminated information to farmers, urging them to focus on clearing waterways and tending to the damaged crops.
For peanut fields covered with plastic sheeting, farmers need to promptly spray root stimulants to ensure the plants develop in time for the planting season. For vegetable crops that are ready for harvest, farmers need to quickly harvest them to prepare the land for planting short-term corn. At the same time, they should choose areas with good drainage to replant vegetables to supply the market for the upcoming Lunar New Year.

Farmers in many areas of Thanh Chuong are actively harvesting rice that has been flattened by the floodwaters.
According to Mr. Le Dinh Thanh, Vice Chairman of the Thanh Chuong District People's Committee, after providing emergency relief to severely affected areas, the district is determined to prevent people from going hungry or cold. Immediately after the flood, the district compiled a damage report and directed the harvesting of rice and other crops to escape the flood, following the principle of "better to harvest while the rice is still green than to let it wither in the field," striving to harvest all summer-autumn rice crops by September 20th.
Simultaneously, actively promote winter crop production. Local authorities are required to direct flood and storm prevention efforts, and relevant agencies and localities are instructed to strengthen prevention measures and educate the public not to go to rivers and streams to collect firewood, graze cattle, fish, or engage in other water-related activities to prevent accidents. A high-intensity campaign for flood and storm prevention should be organized to proactively respond to subsequent floods.
