The new generation Volkswagen Beetle from the German automaker has just set a world speed record.
| The Volkswagen Beetle is one of the oldest and most famous car models in the world, with a history dating back to 1938. |
| However, in its original form, even the latest generation launched in 2011, the car could never reach a top speed of 320 km/h. |
| At the recent Bonneville Salt Flats speed festival, a specially developed Beetle, driven by journalist Preston Lerner, officially set a world speed record for the model, reaching 330.11 km/h (205.122 mph) over a distance of 1 mile (1.6 km). |
| As a result of the modifications, the Beetle now has double the original power, reaching over 600 horsepower and nearly 677 Nm of torque at the crankshaft. If power loss through the drivetrain is subtracted, the car has 543 horsepower and 570 Nm of torque at the front wheels. |
| While THR modified the engine, Volkswagen lowered the car's suspension, fitted special thin-walled Bonneville salt flat tires, and added a limited-slip differential. |
| The body of the car remains almost entirely original compared to a mass-produced Beetle, with only the addition of a pair of parachutes at the rear for deceleration. |
| Inside, comfort features and soundproofing have been completely removed, replaced instead with a reinforced steel frame, racing seats, and a fire suppression system. |
| The Volkswagen Beetle is one of the oldest and most famous car models in the world. |
| This is a special model from Europe's largest car manufacturer. |
| This car model harmoniously combines classic and modern elements. |
