Mr. Trinh's deer herd has given him good fortune. |
Taking us to visit the farm, Mr. Nguyen Duy Trinh confided: In 1988, after being discharged from the army and returning to my hometown, I started to develop the economy. At first, my family focused on developing the herd of cows, but due to lack of experience and the epidemic, the family's herd of 17 cows was almost lost... Although I failed miserably in raising livestock, I did not get discouraged. I continued raising livestock but switched to the "specialties" of porcupines, spotted deer, and hill chickens.
In 2010, the porcupine breeding movement in Anh Son flourished, Mr. Trinh bought 2 pairs of porcupines to raise, currently the herd still has 10 porcupines. Wanting to try new models, in 2014, Mr. Trinh went to Ha Tinh to buy deer to raise experimentally. From the initial 4 deer, the family's herd has now increased to 10, of which 5 male deer have produced antlers, with an amount of 5 kg of antlers/year, bringing in an income of over 60 million VND/year.

Mr. Trinh also raises porcupines. |
Not only raising specialty animals, Mr. Trinh also dug 0.5 hectares of ponds to raise fish, raising 200-300 hill chickens each year to improve family meals and increase income.
Sharing his experience in raising specialty animals, Mr. Trinh said: Raising wild boars, spotted deer, and porcupines is not difficult, because they are wild animals, so they have high resistance and are rarely sick, just need to focus on vaccination from a young age. Besides, the main food source for livestock is leaves, tubers and fruits. Therefore, it is possible to take advantage of vacant land to grow corn and elephant grass to ensure a clean food source for livestock. The important thing is the output for the products, I am currently selling to restaurants.

Not stopping there, on the 4 hectares of garden land, Mr. Nguyen Duy Trinh also planted 1,000 orange trees, 500 grapefruit trees and black canarium trees. Currently, many orange areas have entered the construction stage to produce fruit. It is expected that with 4 hectares of fruit trees of all kinds, he will have a significant source of income in the near future.
The economic farm raising special products of veteran Nguyen Duy Trinh has become a regular learning and experience sharing point of the Veterans Association of Dinh Son commune.
