Strengthening rabies prevention and control efforts.
(Baonghean.vn) -On the morning of September 23rd, in Vinh City, the Ministry of Health, in coordination with the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, organized the 2016 Scientific Workshop on Rabies Prevention and Control.
In recent years, rabies prevention and control in Vietnam has received significant attention and has made impressive progress with efforts to eliminate rabies through inter-sectoral coordination between the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, the Ministry of Health, and local authorities.
In the first nine months of 2016, the whole country recorded 49 deaths from rabies in 20 provinces and cities (compared to 58 deaths in 22 provinces and cities during the same period last year, with Nghe An province having the highest number of deaths with 6 cases).

A total of 207,179 patients received rabies vaccinations; coordination with the veterinary sector was carried out to investigate and handle rabies outbreaks in humans and animals; and communication activities on rabies prevention were intensified…
At the workshop, delegates focused on discussing: Methods for calculating the effectiveness of rabies vaccination; strengthening rabies testing in Vietnam... Simultaneously, according to experts, rabies is entirely preventable if detected early and treated promptly according to the recommendations of veterinary and health authorities.
