Postponing the time to amend the Law on Anti-Corruption

National Assembly Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan said the Government has proposed to stop submitting the revised Law on Anti-Corruption at the second session of the 14th National Assembly.

On the morning of October 3, in her opening speech at the 4th session of the National Assembly Standing Committee, National Assembly Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan said the Government has proposed not to submit the Law on Anti-Corruption at the 2nd session of the 14th tenure.

According to Ms. Ngan, the reason the Government made the proposal was to wait until after summarizing 10 years of implementing the Central Resolution 3 (10th tenure) on strengthening the Party's leadership in the work of preventing and combating corruption and waste to have a full basis when the draft Law submitted to the National Assembly is "comprehensively revised, seriously, in line with reality, and put into practice".

Previously, according to the 2016 law and ordinance building program, at the 2nd session (expected to open at the end of October), the National Assembly will give opinions on the revised Law on Anti-Corruption.

On that basis, the National Assembly Chairman proposed that the National Assembly Standing Committee agree to withdraw the draft Law on Anti-Corruption (amended) from the agenda of this 4th session.

In addition, according to the scheduled program, the 4th session will not discuss two draft laws: the Law on Supporting Small and Medium Enterprises and the Law on Amending and Supplementing Laws on Investment and Business.

The 4th session of the National Assembly Standing Committee will also give opinions on: The draft law amending and supplementing a number of articles of the 2015 Penal Code; the State Audit's audit work in 2017; the work of handling complaints and denunciations, and receiving citizens by the Government, the Supreme People's Court, and the Supreme People's Procuracy...
