Eight people died due to floods in central Vietnam.
Record-breaking rainfall has killed at least eight people, left 10 missing, and paralyzed transportation in central Vietnam. Meteorological agencies predict the rain has subsided, but some areas are still receiving over 100 mm.
The tropical depression that made landfall in recent days caused heavy rain in the area from Ha Tinh to Thua Thien Hue, especially in Quang Binh, with rainfall reaching up to 700 mm, breaking the 24-hour record set in 1995.
According to the National Committee for Search and Rescue, the three-day heavy rain has resulted in 8 deaths and 10 missing persons as of the afternoon of October 15th. Quang Binh suffered the heaviest losses with 6 deaths and 6 missing; Ha Tinh had 2 deaths; and Thua Thien Hue and Nghe An each reported 1 death and 1 missing person.
The floods also submerged or damaged the roofs of more than 26,000 houses and destroyed over 175 hectares of crops. To ensure the safety of residents, local authorities had to relocate 140 households.

Heavy rains also caused serious damage to transportation, such as the Ho Chi Minh Highway section passing through Thuong Hoa and Minh Hoa communes in Quang Binh province, which was flooded to a depth of 1 meter for a length of 600 meters. Many other roads through Quang Binh and Ha Tinh provinces were flooded, causing traffic congestion or landslides on the embankment slopes. In the section from Dong Hoi to Le Ky and La Khe station (Ha Tinh province), water flooded the railway tracks to a depth of 10 cm, disrupting railway traffic. Eight communes in Quang Binh and four communes in Ha Tinh were isolated.
Due to the influence of a tropical depression combined with a cold front, on the night of October 13th, provinces from Thua Thien Hue to Nghe An experienced very heavy rain. In 24 hours, the total rainfall measured at the Dong Hoi meteorological station (Quang Binh) reached 747 mm. Today, the rain in Quang Binh has decreased but is tending to spread northward to include Ha Tinh and Nghe An provinces.
The meteorological and hydrological agency forecasts that tomorrow morning, the water level on the Ngan Sau River will be 12.7m, 0.7m above alarm level 2; and on the Giang River will be 3.5m. Flooding will continue in Khuong Khe, Cam Xuyen, and Ky Anh districts (Ha Tinh province) and Minh Hoa, Tuyen Hoa, and Bo Trach districts (Quang Binh province) with water depths ranging from 1 to 2.5 meters.
