8 people died due to floods in Central Vietnam
Record rain has killed at least 8 people, left 10 missing, and paralyzed traffic in the central region. The meteorological agency predicts that the rain has decreased but some places will still have over 100 mm.
The tropical depression that has made landfall in recent days has caused heavy rain from Ha Tinh to Thua Thien Hue, especially in Quang Binh, up to 700 mm, breaking the record in 24 hours compared to 1995.
According to the National Committee for Search and Rescue, the three-day rain has left 8 people dead and 10 missing as of the afternoon of October 15. Quang Binh suffered the heaviest damage with 6 dead and 6 missing; Ha Tinh 2 dead; Thua Thien Hue and Nghe An each had 1 dead and 1 missing.
The floods also caused more than 26,000 houses to be flooded and have their roofs blown off, and damaged more than 175 hectares of crops. To ensure the safety of the people, localities had to evacuate 140 households.

Heavy rains also caused serious traffic damage, such as the Ho Chi Minh road section passing through Thuong Hoa and Minh Hoa communes in Quang Binh, which was flooded 1 meter deep and 600 meters long. Many other routes through Quang Binh and Ha Tinh were flooded, causing traffic jams or landslides on the negative slope. The section from Dong Hoi to Le Ky and La Khe station (Ha Tinh) was flooded 10 cm deep, disrupting railway traffic. Eight communes in Quang Binh and four communes in Ha Tinh were isolated.
Due to the influence of low pressure combined with cold air, on the night of October 13, the provinces from Thua Thien - Hue to Nghe An had very heavy rain. In 24 hours, the total rainfall measured at Dong Hoi meteorological station (Quang Binh) reached 747 mm. Today, the rain in Quang Binh decreased but tended to spread to the north, including Ha Tinh and Nghe An provinces.
The Meteorological and Hydrological Agency forecasts that tomorrow morning the water level on the Ngan Sau River will be at 12.7m, 0.7m above alert level 2; the Giang River will be at 3.5m. Flooding continues in the districts of Khuong Khe, Cam Xuyen, Ky Anh (Ha Tinh) and Minh Hoa, Tuyen Hoa, Bo Trach (Quang Binh) with a depth of 1 to 2.5m.
