Raising VietGAP chickens effectively in Anh Son

Ms. Nguyen Thi Huong's family in village 11, Long Son commune, is one of the households that benefited from this model. She said: After the Agricultural Extension Station supported 350 breeding chickens, her family invested in building a standard barn, using biological bedding. During the raising process, her family was also inspected and instructed on care and vaccination techniques by officers from Anh Son district's Agricultural Extension Station, so there were no outbreaks of disease, the loss rate was insignificant, and the chickens grew very quickly.

"The advantage of hybrid chickens is that they grow faster and weigh more than local chickens, and their meat is delicious, so they are popular in the market," Ms. Huong added.

In August 2016, the Anh Son District Agricultural Extension Station provided 700 chickens to 2 households in Village 11, Long Son Commune with a total cost of over 60 million VND. Each household was supported with 350 one-day-old chickens, feed and technical guidance on building cages according to prescribed standards. In addition, households were also supported with disease prevention drugs, strictly applied vaccination schedules, and ensured food with enough protein, minerals and vitamins...

Thanks to the correct grazing process, after more than 2 months of raising, the average weight of each chicken reaches from 1.7 to 2 kg. With the selling price from 100,000 - 120,000 VND/kg, it is estimated that after 3 months, the farmer will earn a profit of more than 40 million VND/batch of 350 chickens.

Mr. Nguyen Quang Phung - an officer at the Anh Son district agricultural extension station shared: Traditionally raised chickens are susceptible to respiratory and intestinal diseases, have a high loss rate, and grow slowly. But when implementing the model according to VietGAP, the diseases are significantly improved. Chickens grow quickly, and their weight is much higher than that of local chicken breeds./.
