(Baonghean.vn) -The Chi Khe area (Con Cuong district, Nghe An province) is mainly hilly land with a harsh climate, making vegetable and crop production inefficient. In the last three years, the Thai ethnic people in Quyet Tien village have boldly introduced orange trees as a replacement crop. With nearly 16 hectares concentrated in Quyet Tien village, oranges are now considered a key crop contributing significantly to poverty reduction in this mountainous commune.
| In 2012, the entire Quyet Tien village had only 3 households growing oranges, covering an area of nearly 3 hectares. Now, that number has increased to 20 households. |
| Mr. Duc Son was the first person in Quyet Tien village to introduce orange trees to be grown on less productive vegetable land. |
| Currently, the people of Quyet Tien village mainly grow three varieties of oranges: Xa Doai oranges with yellow flesh, Van Du oranges, Valencia oranges (V2), and Cao Phong oranges (Hoa Binh). |
| At this time of year, the Van Du orange variety begins to be harvested. |
| Xã Đoài oranges have a larger, yellow flesh than Vân Du oranges, but they have the same sweet and fragrant taste. |
| On average, each hectare of orange trees yields an income of 500 to 600 million VND per year. |
These days, the orange trees in Quyet Tien village are in the harvest season. |
| The oranges from Quyet Tien are proving their economic value day by day and becoming a specialty of Con Cuong. In the near future, the mountainous commune of Chi Khe will continue to expand the orange cultivation model on its hilly, barren land. |
