(Baonghean.vn) -Chi Khe land (Con Cuong, Nghe An) is mainly hilly land, harsh climate, low efficiency in vegetable production. In the past 3 years, Thai ethnic people in Quyet Tien village have boldly introduced orange trees to replace. With nearly 16 hectares concentrated in Quyet Tien village, oranges are considered the main crop contributing significantly to hunger eradication and poverty reduction in this mountainous commune.
In 2012, the whole Quyet Tien village had only 3 households growing oranges with an area of nearly 3 hectares. Now it has increased to 20 households. |
Mr. Duc Son was the first person in Quyet Tien village to plant orange trees on ineffective vegetable land. |
Currently, Quyet Tien villagers mainly grow 3 varieties of oranges: Xa Doai orange with golden heart, Van Du orange, Valencia orange (V2) and Cao Phong orange (Hoa Binh). |
At this time, Van Du orange variety begins to be harvested. |
Xa Doai oranges have larger yellow flesh than Van Du oranges but have the same sweet and aromatic taste. |
On average, each hectare of oranges gives an income of 500 to 600 million VND/year. |
These days, orange trees in Quyet Tien village are in harvest season. |
Quyet Tien oranges are gradually affirming their economic value and becoming a specialty of Con Cuong. In the near future, Chi Khe mountainous commune will continue to expand the orange growing model on mountainous and barren land. |
