Recently, representatives from the US Navy and Vietnam held an inauguration ceremony for a facility in Quang Nam province that repairs and maintains Vietnamese coast guard vessels.

Attending this momentous event were Admiral Harry B. Harris Jr. - Commander of the U.S. Pacific Command, Major General Bui Trung Dung - Deputy Commander of the Vietnam Coast Guard...

With U.S. support, the ship repair and maintenance facility helps enhance the capacity of the Vietnam Coast Guard in operating and maintaining ships to effectively deter and respond to threats along Vietnam's coastline.

"These facilities demonstrate the United States' commitment to strengthening bilateral cooperation and Vietnam's commitment to its maritime security. Training Vietnamese coast guard officers will have a lasting impact and symbolize our enduring commitment to Vietnam and the region," Admiral Harris said at the event.

According to the admiral, this center is the clearest evidence of the partnership between the United States and Vietnam, demonstrating a shared commitment to strengthening military relations, particularly in the areas of maritime security, law enforcement, and search and rescue efforts.

Admiral Harris emphasized: "Maritime security is an area that affects us all and one we cannot afford to underestimate. These well-equipped facilities are a testament to the hard work and dedication of so many people in enhancing our collective ability to address maritime security challenges."

Establishing a ship repair and maintenance center for the Coast Guard enables Vietnam to independently troubleshoot and upgrade ships during operation, including large vessels like the CSB 7011 with a full-load displacement of up to 4,300 tons.

The CSB 7011 vessel is nearly 90m long, with a maximum width of 14m, a side height of approximately 6.25m, a draft of about 4.5m, a gross tonnage of approximately 2,900 tons, a full-load displacement of over 4,300 tons, a maximum speed of 13.5 knots, a range of up to 6,000 nautical miles, and can operate continuously at sea for up to 60 days and nights, withstanding waves and winds of force 9-11.

The Coast Guard vessel CSB 7011 is designed for transporting oil and supplying fuel, fresh water, food, and technical and logistical supplies to ships operating at sea, as well as to islands and offshore platforms.

The ship has a fuel and freshwater carrying capacity of up to 2000 m³ of oil and 500 m³ of freshwater. In terms of logistical support, it can carry approximately 300 tons of dry cargo, 30 tons of frozen cargo, and about 80 tons of various fruits and vegetables.

In addition, the ship is equipped with examination rooms, first aid stations, treatment facilities for military medical services, and a technical repair workshop to provide small and medium-sized technical repair services.

In addition, the CSB 7011 vessel is also tasked with supporting fishermen engaged in offshore fishing, enabling them to stay at sea for extended periods (providing fuel, fresh water, necessities, and minor repairs); participating in coordinated patrols, search and rescue operations, environmental protection, maritime and island security and defense, and other tasks as required.
