(Baonghean.vn) - Tan Ky district, in coordination with Song Con Sugar Company and the People's Committee of Tan Xuan commune, has developed a model of Thai sugarcane cultivation achieving a yield of 100 tons/hectare. The model covers an area of 45 hectares and is cultivated by Tho ethnic minority farmers in Tan Ky.

Thanh Tra hamlet in Tan Xuan commune (Tan Ky district) has a long tradition of sugarcane production. Due to drought conditions, the hamlet has converted 100% of its low-yield rice land to sugarcane cultivation. Previously, sugarcane production under normal conditions reached 55 tons/hectare.

This year, Tan Ky district and Song Con Sugar Company invested in a Thai sugarcane model in the hamlet, covering 45 hectares. After 7 months, the sugarcane is developing well. The sugarcane stalks are evenly spaced, the plant density is high, and the yield is high. According to Song Con Sugar Company's assessment, the yield is expected to reach approximately 100 tons/hectare, making it the highest-yielding area in Tan Ky.

High plant density and rapid internode elongation.

Mr. Truong Van Thuy, head of Thanh Tra hamlet, said: "The hamlet is mainly inhabited by the Tho ethnic group, but we have been growing sugarcane for over 10 years. After receiving the policy to build the model, the commune held meetings with the Party committee, mass organizations, and mobilized the people. Thanks to good mobilization, the people have now participated in the Thai sugarcane model, and productivity has increased from 55-60 tons/hectare to 100 tons/hectare."

KK2 is a variety developed in Thailand, imported and tested by the Sugar Cane Research & Development Center since 2005, and is now widely produced in many places.

KK2 sugarcane has the following advantages: High germination and tillering rate, early and concentrated growth, strong internode elongation. High and very uniform effective plant density, good ratooning, early ripening. Adapts well to high-altitude areas, is drought-tolerant, and tolerant to intensive cultivation. Resistant to smut, red rot, and leaf curl. Agricultural yield is quite good under intensive cultivation conditions, reaching 80-100 tons/ha. It is a variety with high sugar content at the beginning of the season, early ripening, and a medium sugar content (CSS) of 12-13%.
