'Unveiling' Yamaha NVX - segment 'above' Honda Air Blade

Movistar Yamaha rider Valentino Rossi was the first to unveil the NVX, Yamaha's most important model in Southeast Asia.

The once-famous Yamaha Nouvo will now be a thing of the past, as the Japanese automaker officially introduces the all-new Yamaha NVX. This will be the official name in Vietnam and Malaysia, while in Thailand and Indonesia the model will be called AeroX. Racer Valentino Rossi is the one who unveiled the NVX model for the first time to the public, at the Sepang racetrack, Malaysia. The car is expected to launch in Vietnam on December 16.

NVX is positioned as a 'superior' size compared to its old rival, Honda Air Blade. The name Nouvo is no longer used, but replaced by a new name. In addition to the name, Yamaha equipped a series of significant upgrades for this strategic vehicle in Southeast Asia.

The body design is bold, with many sharp bevels, creating a sporty, aggressive look. The headlights use two independent LED clusters and LED taillights. The license plate bracket with integrated turn signals is separate, making the rear of the car higher, more clearly sporty.

In the NVX version with 155cc engine, the vehicle has a dry weight of about 100 kg with a wheelbase of 1,350 mm. The length, width, and height dimensions are 1,990 mm x 700 mm x 1,125 mm respectively. The saddle height is 790 mm. The rims are 14 inches in size with 110/80 front tires and 140/70 rear tires.

Yamaha NVX uses a 5.8-inch full-LCD driver center display. The new display will help the driver grasp parameters such as engine rpm, adjust the number of kilometers for each route, display speed, time, and vehicle operating status indicator lights.

In the high-end version, NVX is equipped with a smart key integrated with trunk opening, fuel filler lever, ABS front brake and temporary engine stop feature (start stop system). The oil-assisted rear shock absorber option will be available on NVX, however Yamaha has not revealed information on which version.

Sportier and more aggressive design than Nouvo.

The second generation Blue Core engine is equipped on the NVX with two options of 125 or 155cc. In addition to being equipped with a liquid cooler and a single camshaft (SOHC), the NVX also applies an active variable fuel intake/exhaust mechanism (VVA - Variable Valve Actuation).

New technology, new design, NVX is the model that Yamaha expects to bring better driving feeling, enhance practicality and re-establish the true sport scooter segment. The company's sales target is 300,000 NVX vehicles per year.Yamaha has not yet announced specific names of versions, colors or prices.

The Yamaha Nouvo was first launched in 2002, creating a major turning point in the perception of motorbikes in Vietnam. When it appeared, Nouvo gradually defined what a fashionable scooter is, especially among young people. After more than 10 years of existence and development with many upgrades, Nouvo gradually lost its breath to its 'successor', the Honda Air Blade. Although it was launched 5 years later than Nouvo, Air Blade attracted customers and grew steadily, gradually surpassing Nouvo in sales.

With NVX, Yamaha has set high expectations, at least to 'create the world' like the Yamaha Nouvo once did.
