Will the Coast Guard be equipped with aircraft?

The Ministry of National Defense is drafting a Law on the Vietnam Coast Guard (CSB). Accordingly, the CSB can be equipped with aircraft and operate in international waters when necessary.

One of the notable points of the draft Law on Vietnam Coast Guard is the scope of operations clearly defined in Article 12. In case of necessity, for humanitarian purposes, peace, crime prevention, and law violations at sea, Vietnam Coast Guard is allowed to operate in relevant areas, in foreign waters, and international waters, but must comply with Vietnamese law, bilateral agreements, treaties and international laws of which the Socialist Republic of Vietnam is a member.

A new point in this draft Law is to clearly define the responsibilities of the Ministries of National Defense, Public Security, and Foreign Affairs towards the Vietnam Coast Guard. Accordingly, within the scope of their functions and tasks, agencies under the Ministry of National Defense are responsible for assisting the Minister of National Defense in state management and comprehensive command and direction of the Vietnam Coast Guard. The Ministry of Public Security directs agencies and units under its authority to notify and provide necessary information and documents on protecting national security, maintaining social order and safety, and other information related to the functions and tasks of the Vietnam Coast Guard. Coordinate in searching for and arresting people and vehicles violating the law at the request of the Vietnam Coast Guard.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs directs its agencies and units to notify and provide necessary information and documents on the State's foreign policies and activities; international treaties and agreements to which Vietnam is a member related to the functions, tasks and powers of the Vietnam Coast Guard. Guide and support the Vietnam Coast Guard in foreign affairs in resolving cases involving foreign elements within the functions, tasks and powers of the Vietnam Coast Guard...

According to the draft Law, the Vietnam Coast Guard is equipped with ships, boats, aircraft and other means; equipped with weapons, support tools and professional equipment to perform functions and tasks (specified in detail by the Minister of National Defense). Ships, aircraft and other means of the Vietnam Coast Guard have their own colors, flags and insignia (specified in detail by the Government).
