Australia remains supportive of the TPP despite warnings from the US President-elect.

According to THX, Australian Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull said on November 22 that the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) remains one of the country's most important trade priorities, despite US President-elect Donald Trump's announcement that he would withdraw from the TPP on his first day in office.

Speaking to reporters in Canberra after attending the 24th Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Summit in Peru, Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull affirmed that other countries, including Australia, still expect the agreement to be ratified.

Mr. Turnbull said: "We, like the other 11 countries participating in the TPP, believe that this trade agreement is an important strategic commitment for the United States, but the new U.S. administration needs to make a decision. The other 11 partners strongly support the ratification of this agreement and its entry into force."

Prime Minister Turnbull affirmed that Australia will maintain its position in support of the TPP because the agreement is clearly beneficial to Australia.
