The Russian president said they had been discussing this for a long time. Putin added: "We agreed from the beginning that we would not politicize this issue."

The Russian leader also asserted that the move would make it easier for the Hollywood actor to realize his creative ideas and maintain contact with friends in Russia after being granted Russian citizenship.

Putin stated: "I would like to congratulate actor Seagal, and I also hope that this small step will mark the beginning of a gradual improvement in relations between the two countries."

Handing the passport to Seagal personally, Putin noted that it would be invalid without the actor's signature. According to the Tass news agency, the star subsequently signed the first page of his Russian passport, expressing his sincere gratitude to Putin.

The Russian leader said he is still carefully preserving all the gifts received from Seagal and intends to maintain good relations with the new Russian citizen.
