Putin gives Russian passport to Hollywood star

The Russian president said they had been discussing the issue for a long time. Putin added: “We agreed from the very beginning not to politicize this issue.”

The Russian leader also affirmed that the move will help the Hollywood actor more easily realize his creative ideas, as well as continue to maintain contacts with friends in Russia after being granted Russian citizenship.

“I would like to congratulate actor Seagal, and I also hope that this small step will mark the beginning of a gradual improvement of relations between our countries,” Putin said.

Handing the passport to Seagal, Putin also noted that the passport would not be valid without the actor's signature. According to Tass news agency, the star then signed the first page of his Russian passport, sending a sincere thank you to Putin.

The Russian leader said he is still carefully preserving all the gifts he received from Seagal and plans to maintain good relations with the new Russian citizen.
