(Baonghean.vn) - On the morning of November 17, the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development held a conference to summarize sugarcane production in the 2015-2016 crop year, the 2016-2017 plan, and evaluate the results of implementing the raw sugarcane planning until 2015.

Hội nghị ...
The conference was attended by the agricultural sector of the districts planning sugarcane growing land in the province and 3 sugarcane processing companies.

The 2015 - 2016 crop year shows that the sugarcane growing areas of the province mainly grow sugarcane varieties: QD93-159, VD00236, ROC10, ROC16, ROX22, KK3, Viet Duong 00236, Que Duong 94-119...

Assessment of sugarcane production results shows that sugarcane yield and quality in the past crop year were affected by prolonged drought and diseases such as grass shoots, white fiber aphids, black smut, stem borers, and beetles that occurred in some areas.

Data from sugarcane processing companies in the province shows: Total sugarcane area reached more than 21.7 thousand hectares (71.22% of the plan), average yield reached more than 51.34 tons/ha (80.86% of the plan), sugarcane output reached more than 1.1 million tons, reaching 58.04% compared to planning No. 151/QD-UBND province.

In the 2016-2017 pressing season, according to data from sugarcane processing companies in the province, the whole province has 22,647 hectares, the yield is 53.4 tons/ha, the output is more than 1.2 million tons of sugarcane. The pressing time is expected from November 25, 2016 to the end of April 2017.

The planned sugarcane planting area in 2017 is over 17 thousand hectares, of which the newly planted and replanted sugarcane area is 7,592 hectares, and the remaining sugarcane area is 19,548 hectares. Sugarcane processing companies in the province continue to have policies to develop sugarcane raw material areas: Investing in soil and fertilizer analysis and evaluation systems; training human resources; implementing the construction of large fields and model fields; mechanization projects...

Decision No. 151/QD-UBND of the Provincial People's Committee on the planning of the province's sugarcane raw material area for the period 2013 - 2020 is 28,400 hectares. In fact, by 2015, the sugarcane area of the whole province only reached 71.22% of the plan. The reason is that the implementation of the sugarcane raw material production planning has only stopped at the stage of announcing the planning, not focusing on directing the implementation to each locality. The efficiency of sugarcane raw material production in the past has been low, while some other crops grown on land planned for sugarcane raw material are higher: animal feed, oranges, lemons... Besides, the sugarcane purchasing mechanism of factories is not satisfactory, so some farmers have switched to growing other crops.

People's investment in sugarcane cultivation is still low; seed work has not received due attention; scientific and technological advances in sugarcane cultivation have not been widely replicated.

Regarding solutions to increase sugarcane area and productivity, sugarcane processing companies in the province believe that the key issue for people to "stick" to sugarcane is to increase sugarcane productivity. Therefore, companies continue to support loans for production, fertilizers, land preparation, etc. for sugarcane cultivation; support research, testing, and transfer of new varieties with high productivity and quality into production; support land reclamation and road construction in concentrated raw material areas; support the conversion of ineffective rice-growing land to sugarcane cultivation, etc.

The province needs to pay attention to directing the continued implementation of land accumulation; the conversion of crop structure on alluvial land is applied to sugarcane to organize large-scale, commodity production. Authorities at all levels focus on directing the implementation and have strong enough sanctions to implement the planning./.
