Trump: America will stop trying to 'overthrow' foreign governments

Billionaire Donald Trump admits that being US president is a heavier responsibility than he thought.

After meeting with the president-elect last week, former House Speaker Newt Gingrich told USA Today that Trump was starting to feel the weight of the job.

Mr. Gingrich said: "Mr. Trump commented that the responsibility of a president is really a job that goes beyond what he thinks." According to Mr. Gingrich, as a US president, Mr. Trump can decide war, peace, has great power and everything depends on him.

After President Barack Obama met with Trump at the White House on November 10, a source told The Wall Street Journal that Trump “seemed surprised by the responsibilities of the presidency.” According to the newspaper, the New York billionaire did not know that he would have to replace the entire White House staff upon taking office.

Meanwhile, at the first stop of his “Thank You” trip to Cincinnati, Ohio on December 1, Mr. Trump promised a “new era of peace.” Accordingly, the United States under his administration will “stop trying to overthrow governments around the world” and cooperate with countries to fight terrorism, including the self-proclaimed Islamic State (IS).

Mr. Trump also emphasized that he would restore the strength of the "weakened" US military and repeated the commitments made during the election campaign, including building a wall along the border with Mexico.

Stops on Mr. Trump’s upcoming “Thank You” tour have not been announced, but George Gigicos, the president-elect’s campaign director of logistics, said the trip will take place in battleground states won by Mr. Trump.

In the recent election, Mr. Trump won the battleground states of Michigan, Wisconsin, Pennsylvania and Florida.
