“Beating a great opponent like Murray to win the championship is a great start to the new season. I tried to win every point and tried to control the game with strong play to win,” Djokovic said.

Murray was disappointed, although the defeat did not cause him to lose his world number one position. “It’s hard to swallow the defeat. A top-level match requires consistent performance as well as a very high level of fitness. I will come back stronger in the next tournaments.”

Besides successfully defending his Qatar Open title, Djokovic also ended Murray's 28-game winning streak at ATP tournaments.
