Speaking to lawmakers after the counting of ballots cast at the Electoral College session on December 19, US Vice President Joe Biden declared: "Donald Trump from New York has won 304 votes to become President of the United States," while his Democratic opponent Hillary Clinton received 227 votes.

According to him, the official vote count "will be considered sufficient" for Trump and Vice President-elect Mike Pence to be sworn in on January 20th.

Speaking on Twitter afterward, House Speaker Paul Ryan said: "The results of the Electoral College meeting are in. Donald J. Trump will be the 45th President of the United States."

Immediately following the inauguration of President-elect Donald Trump on January 20th, the US Congress is expected to embark on a busy agenda.

The issues expected to become "hot spots" in American politics in the coming period are the fate of the affordable healthcare program (Obamacare), reforming executive orders and decisions that Republicans believe were abused under President Barack Obama, addressing allegations of Russian interference in the US election, and approving a series of Trump's personnel nominations.
