Speaking to lawmakers after finishing counting the votes cast at the Electoral College meeting on December 19, US Vice President Joe Biden declared: "Mr. Donald Trump from New York won 304 votes to become President of the United States," while his Democratic opponent Hillary Clinton received 227 votes.

According to him, the official vote count "will be considered sufficient" for Mr. Trump and Vice President-elect Mike Pence to be sworn in on January 20.

Speaking on Twitter afterwards, House Speaker Paul Ryan said: "The results of the Electoral College meeting are in. Donald J. Trump will be the 45th President of the United States."

It is expected that immediately after the inauguration of President-elect Donald Trump on January 20, the US Congress will embark on a busy agenda.

Issues that are expected to become “hot spots” in US politics in the coming time are the fate of the affordable health care program (Obamacare), rectifying executive orders and decisions that Republicans believe were abused under President Barack Obama, handling suspicions of Russian interference in the US election, and approving a series of Trump’s personnel nominations./.
