Japan and the US have agreed to hold a meeting between Abe and Trump soon.

According to NHK, an aide to the Japanese Prime Minister and a national security advisor in the incoming US administration have agreed on the importance of arranging a summit meeting between Shinzo Abe and Donald Trump as soon as possible.

Kawai Katsuyuki, special advisor to the Japanese Prime Minister, met with former US Defense Intelligence Agency Director Michael Flynn in Washington on January 6th.

Flynn was nominated by Trump to the position of National Security Advisor.

Mr. Kawai and Mr. Flynn agreed that the crucial Japan-U.S. alliance cannot be altered by the new U.S. administration and that, as a strong alliance, it needs to be further strengthened and developed.

The two officials also agreed that a meeting between Abe and Trump should be held immediately after Trump's inauguration on January 20th.

Mr. Kawai also suggested that Mr. Trump should visit Japan soon.
