Super-slim road-making process attracts record-breaking viewers
A video recording the smooth construction of a road in Australia has unexpectedly attracted more than 14 million views because of its "smoothness".
The video below was captured by a drone of a 5km stretch of road being shaped in the Moora district of the Wheatbelt region of Western Australia.
Since posting the video on January 10, the website of the Moora district government, which has a population of less than 2,000 people, has seen its number of followers skyrocket to 59,000.
As of January 11, the video had been viewed 14 million times and shared 400,000 times. Local government official Alan Leeson said he initially thought Moora’s Facebook page had been hacked.
But in fact, the 15-minute video went viral. Mr. Leeson said the Moora government wanted to post the video to raise public awareness of road construction. After it became so popular, the video was shortened.
It is known that the process of paving the road with asphalt and then covering it with gravel cost 443,000 USD.
