Mexico refuses to pay for the construction of a border wall with the United States.

According to Reuters, after US President-elect Donald Trump announced plans to build a wall on the border between the two countries, Mexican President Enrique Pena Nieto said that the Mexican government would not pay for its construction and also intended to protect the freedom of remittances.

On January 11, Trump asserted that after he takes office on January 20, his administration will begin implementing a plan to build a wall on the border with Mexico at Mexico's expense.

If Mexican authorities refuse, Trump threatens to ban Mexican migrants from transferring money from the U.S. back to their home countries.
