Cristiano Ronaldo signed a lifetime endorsement deal with the renowned sports equipment brand Nike last year. He received a billion-dollar fee but quickly helped Nike generate massive revenue.

In 2016, Ronaldo posted 1,703 times on his personal social media accounts, generating 2.25 billion interactions. The Portuguese striker has 260 million followers across his three accounts: Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram.

According to Hookit statistics, 347 of Ronaldo's posts last year featured the Nike logo or were directly mentioned by Ronaldo, generating 477 million interactions. Thanks to Ronaldo's endorsement, Nike earned $500 million, out of a total revenue of $32 billion in 2016.

Ronaldo is the player with the most online followers and is also one of the stars who diligently updates his fans on his personal life.

Being active online not only helps CR7 build his image, but also helps him earn money through collaborations with brands. Ronaldo, therefore, was the highest-earning athlete in 2016 ($88 million).
