The standard and sport versions of this model differ slightly in design and engine equipment. |
Hyundai has brought its latest design language to the new Sonata, with a large trapezoidal grille similar to its “younger brothers” Elantra and Accent. The main headlights are sharp; LED daytime running lights are arranged vertically below the front bumper area and the hood has strong embossed ribs. The taillights are slimmer, with arrow-shaped LED strips placed inside and pointing towards the center of the Hyundai logo.
The side design of the 2018 Sonata has not changed much. The most noticeable difference is the 5-spoke wheel set on the regular version and the Y-shaped type for the sport version, with 17-inch or 18-inch options.
The overall dimensions of the facelift version are no different from before, with length x width x height of 4,855 x 1,865 x 1,475 mm, and a wheelbase of 2,805 mm.
Not only stopping at changing the exterior, Hyundai also upgraded the equipment inside the cabin such as the air conditioning, ventilation, heating, and sound control systems. The steering wheel is a 3-spoke, sporty bottom in the Turbo version.
The multi-information entertainment system comes from a standard 7-inch color touchscreen and an optional 8-inch. Users can connect smart mobile devices to the car thanks to the Apple CarPlay and Android Auto applications. In addition, on the center console there is also a USB charging port and wireless phone charging support.
This D-segment sedan is available in both petrol and diesel versions. The 1.7L VGT turbodiesel engine produces 139 horsepower and 250 lb-ft of torque. Meanwhile, the 1.6L T-GDI turbocharged petrol engine produces 177 horsepower and 195 lb-ft of torque.
The 2.0L gasoline engine comes in two options: naturally aspirated CVVL with 160 horsepower and 145 lb-ft of torque for the regular version and turbocharged T-GDI with 241 horsepower and 260 lb-ft of torque for the sport version.
Outstanding safety technologies on the 2018 Sonata include: lane keeping warning and assist system, blind spot detection system, rear collision warning, headlight assist and automatic high beams.
Hyundai is expected to officially launch the new version of Sonata at the New York Auto Show taking place next April.
