In the South Korean market, Hyundai has officially introduced the 2018 facelift version of the Sonata, with upgrades in appearance, engine, and technology.

The standard and sport versions of this model differ slightly in design and engine specifications.

Hyundai has incorporated its latest design language into the new Sonata, featuring a large trapezoidal grille similar to its siblings, the Elantra and Accent. The headlights are sharp and angular; LED daytime running lights are positioned vertically below the front bumper, and the hood has strong, sculpted lines. The taillights are slimmer, with arrow-shaped LED strips inside that point towards the center of the Hyundai logo.

The 2018 Sonata's side profile design hasn't changed much. The most noticeable difference is the double five-spoke wheels on the standard version and Y-shaped wheels on the sport version, with 17-inch or 18-inch wheel options.

The overall dimensions of the facelifted version remain unchanged from before, with length x width x height measuring 4,855 x 1,865 x 1,475 mm respectively, and a wheelbase of 2,805 mm.

Beyond just exterior changes, Hyundai has also upgraded the interior cabin features, including the climate control, ventilation, heating, and audio systems. The Turbo version features a sporty, three-spoke, flat-bottomed steering wheel.

The infotainment system features a standard 7-inch color touchscreen, with an optional 8-inch display. Users can connect their smartphones to the vehicle via Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Additionally, the center console includes USB charging ports and supports wireless phone charging.

This D-segment sedan is available with both petrol and diesel engines. The 1.7L VGT turbodiesel engine produces 139 horsepower and 250 lb-ft of torque. Meanwhile, the 1.6L T-GDI turbocharged petrol engine delivers 177 horsepower and 195 lb-ft of torque.

The 2.0L petrol engine comes in two options: a naturally aspirated CVVL producing 160 horsepower and 145 lb-ft of torque for the standard version, and a turbocharged T-GDI version with 241 horsepower and 260 lb-ft of torque for the sport version.

Notable safety technologies on the 2018 Sonata include: lane keeping assist and warning system, blind spot monitoring, rear collision warning, high beam assist, and automatic cornering lights.

Hyundai is expected to officially launch the new Sonata at the New York Auto Show in April.
