Nghe An: Salt prices increase at the beginning of the production season

(Baonghean.vn) - For the past half month, the price of salt in Quynh Luu district has been selling at 1,700 VND/kg. Currently, salt farmers are actively repairing salt field infrastructure to produce the main crop.

Quynh Luu is a locality with a large salt production area in Nghe An province, mainly concentrated in the communes of Quynh Thuan, An Hoa, Quynh Tho... In the warm and sunny weather, salt farmers are actively repairing and renovating salt fields, water canals... to prepare for the main salt production season of the year.

From early morning, Mr. Nguyen Van Luong and his wife, hamlet 7, Quynh Thuan commune, went to the salt field to renovate the pond and repair the irrigation canal. He said that his family has been producing salt for decades, over 150 m2 of pond.

Although the price of salt has dropped sharply in the past year, his family has persisted in making salt as their main source of income. Due to many repairs, it will take about a month for his family's salt fields to be completed and ready for the main salt production season of the year.

The entire Quynh Luu district currently has 600 hectares of salt production (the whole Nghe An province has 730 hectares), producing an average of over 60,000 tons of salt each year. Mr. Ho Sy Binh - Director of Vinh Ngoc Salt Branch (Vietnam Salt One Member Co., Ltd.) said: The unit has 100 hectares of salt production, in the communes: Quynh Thuan, Quynh Yen and Quynh Phuong (Quynh Luu), producing over 7,000 tons of salt each year. From October to December every year, workers upgrade the fields, build salt field infrastructure such as making water supply and drainage channels, improving drying cells... to increase the value of salt grains.

For more than half a month now, the salt purchase price has been 1,700 VND/kg, higher than last year. The reason for the increase in salt prices is that the amount of salt supplied to the market is not as abundant as during the main season. However, it is expected that by the end of March, when the main production season begins, the salt price will decrease.
