Nghe An: Salt prices rise at the beginning of the production season.
(Baonghean.vn) - For the past two weeks, the price of salt in Quynh Luu district has been selling at 1,700 VND/kg. Currently, salt farmers are actively repairing the infrastructure of their salt fields to prepare for the main production season.
Quynh Luu is a locality with a large salt production area in Nghe An province, mainly concentrated in the communes of Quynh Thuan, An Hoa, Quynh Tho, etc. With warm sunny weather, salt farmers are actively repairing and improving salt fields and irrigation canals... in preparation for the main salt production season of the year.

Early in the morning, Mr. and Mrs. Nguyen Van Luong, from Hamlet 7, Quynh Thuan Commune, went to the salt fields to renovate the ponds and repair the water channels. He said that his family has been producing salt for decades, on over 150 square meters of ponds.
Although salt prices dropped sharply last year, his family persevered in cultivating their salt fields because it was their main source of income. Due to extensive repairs, it will take about another month for his family's salt fields to be completed and ready for the main salt production season of the year.

The entire Quynh Luu district currently has 600 hectares of salt production (compared to 730 hectares in Nghe An province), producing an average of over 60,000 tons of salt annually. Mr. Ho Sy Binh, Director of the Vinh Ngoc Salt Branch (Vietnam Salt Company Limited), stated that the unit has 100 hectares of salt production in the communes of Quynh Thuan, Quynh Yen, and Quynh Phuong (Quynh Luu district), producing approximately 7,000 tons of salt annually. From October to December each year, workers upgrade the salt fields, build infrastructure such as irrigation and drainage canals, and improve drying areas, thereby enhancing the value of the salt.
For more than half a month now, the purchase price of salt has been 1,700 VND/kg, higher than last year. The reason for the price increase is that the current supply of salt to the market is not as abundant as during the peak season. However, it is expected that by the end of March, when the main production season begins, the price of salt will decrease.
