The deployment of a US missile defense system in South Korea is the next challenge that Russia will 'deal with'; Pyongyang's ballistic missile tests are merely a pretext for such actions from Washington, - Senator Viktor Ozerov, Chairman of the Defense and Security Committee in the Federation Council, stated.

According to Renhap, the United States has begun deploying the THAAD missile defense system in South Korea. The news agency reported that components of the THAAD unit were delivered to the military base in Osan on Tuesday by S-17 strategic military transport aircraft, including two missile launchers.

"This is another challenge for Russia, and we will deal with it. The General Staff will conduct an analysis, draw conclusions, and present proposed response measures to the country's leadership," Ozerov stated.

The senator argued that North Korea's ballistic missile tests were merely a pretext for the U.S. to deploy a new missile defense system in South Korea.

"Under the guise of the threat from North Korea, they want to either encircle Russia or at least surround it from the west and east," Ozerov said, noting that Washington "has long mentioned its intention to strengthen its missile defense group in South Korea."
