Surprisingly, the train runs right through a high-rise building.
The overcrowding in Chongqing (China) has forced engineers to design a monorail system that runs through a 19-story building.
A unique monorail line. |
Chongqing, with its population of 49 million, is becoming a challenging task for urban planners and architects seeking to bring about change. |
According to CNN, in 2004, when the Monorail Line 2 project was approved, engineers had only two options: demolish the entire building or remove one or two floors to create space for the trains. After much deliberation, the experts unanimously chose the second option.
Not only can the subway run right through the building, but even passengers wait for their trains on the 7th and 8th floors of this residential building. This also means that residents of the building have the subway station right outside their door. |
The 19-story building was also reinforced with noise-reducing materials and equipment, so residents claim that when trains pass by, they only hear a sound similar to that of a dishwasher. |
It is known that apartment prices in this building are soaring due to its perfect location with easy access to public transport. |
