German car manufacturer Mercedes has announced a recall of approximately 1 million vehicles worldwide due to the possibility of the starter motor overheating, leading to a fire hazard.

The models subject to the recall are the C-Class, E-Class, CLA, and the GLA and GLC sports cars. All of these models were manufactured between 2015 and 2017.

To date, there have been 51 fires involving these vehicle models worldwide, with approximately 30 occurring in the United States. However, there have been no reported casualties related to these incidents.

The recall of 308,000 vehicles in the US will begin in July, when replacement parts for the defective vehicles will be shipped. The US is currently one of Mercedes-Benz's largest markets, along with China and Germany.

A Mercedes representative stated that those who purchased the company's "newly released" vehicles need not worry, as the issue has been resolved within the production line.

Mercedes began investigating the incidents in June 2016 after receiving reports of fires from customers.
