The first leg of the semi-final saw Juventus' opponents once again unable to find a way past the goal defended by Buffon.

The history of previous Champions League appearances before this season shows the best record of consecutive clean sheets.Juventus's record was only five matches. But they broke their own record by beating hosts Monaco 2-0 and extending their goalless streak in this season's Champions League to six matches.

The last team to score against Juventus was Sevilla, in their fifth group stage match on November 22, 2016. Buffon conceded a goal to Nicolas Pareja in the ninth minute of that match as Juventus thrashed the Spanish team 3-1 at their Sanchez Pizjuan stadium.

Since then, Dinamo Zagreb (final group stage match), Porto (two legs of the round of 16), Barca (two legs of the quarter-finals), and Monaco yesterday (first leg of the semi-finals) have all failed to break through Juventus' defensive wall.

Monaco is a young team, a phenomenon in this season's Champions League. But Juventus's ability to silence them is just as impressive as how they once subdued Barcelona – a team with a devastating attacking trio.Messi, Suarez, and Neymar will be left heartbroken in the quarter-finals.

Before the semi-finals,MonacoMonaco earned the admiration of all of Europe for their attacking prowess, having scored six goals against both Manchester City and Dortmund in the round of 16 and quarter-finals, respectively. Monaco also consistently scored at home. They competed in all competitions from November 2015, before being overwhelmed by Juventus' defense.

Goalkeeper Buffon was a crucial factor in Juventus' impressive defensive record. Despite being closely marked by the defenders further up the field, the 38-year-old veteran goalkeeper showed he was in superb form in yesterday's match at the Louis II stadium.

Buffon made five saves against Monaco's strikers – his best performance since the match against Sevilla in December 2005.

Monaco still have at least 90 minutes in the second leg in Turin next week to keep their hopes alive. But they will have to work a miracle against Juventus's excellent defense, while also ensuring they can neutralize the attacking stars of the "Old Lady" if they want to turn the tide.
