The first leg of the semi-final saw Juventus' opponents once again unable to find a way past Buffon's goal.

The history of Champions League appearances before this season recorded the best consecutive clean sheet recordJuventus's record was just five games. But they broke their own record by beating hosts Monaco 2-0 and extending their run of not allowing opponents to score in the Champions League this season to six games.

The last team to score against Juventus was Sevilla, in the fifth round of the group stage on 22 November 2016. Buffon was scored by Nicolas Pareja in the ninth minute of Juventus' 3-1 win at the Sanchez Pizjuan.

Since then, Dinamo Zagreb (last round of the group stage), Porto (two round of 16 matches), Barca (two quarter-final matches) and Monaco yesterday (first leg of the semi-final) have all failed to penetrate Juventus' defensive wall.

Monaco are a young, phenomenal team in this season's Champions League. But Juventus's silencing of their opponents is as impressive as the way they silenced Barca - the team with the destructive attacking triangle.Messi - Suarez - Neymar - had to cry in the quarter-finals.

Before the semi-finals,Monacomade the whole of Europe admire their attacking ability when they tore through Man City and Dortmund each team six times in the round of 16 and quarter-finals. Monaco also always scored at home onevery arena since November 2015, before being helpless against Juventus' defense.

Goalkeeper Buffon is the most important factor in Juventus' impressive defensive record. Despite being carefully protected by the defenders above, the 38-year-old veteran goalkeeper himself showed that he was in excellent form in yesterday's match at the Louis II stadium.

Buffon made five saves against Monaco - his best tally since the match against Sevilla in December 2005.

Monaco still have at least 90 minutes to play in the return leg in Turin next week to hold on to hope. But they will have to pull off a miracle against Juventus' excellent defence, while ensuring they can neutralize the attacking stars of the "Old Lady" side if they are to turn things around.
