Tight security measures have been stepped up and all situations have been addressed at metro stations in the city. The mayor advised residents and visitors not to bring large bags into public places during the holidays.
The Deputy Mayor said that during the May Day holiday, the frequency of controlling subway stations has increased by 60% with a force of 500,000 police officers assigned to patrol.
"Checking passengers at subway stations requires 1,000 security personnel every day. On average, each officer checks 200 passengers and 100 suspicious luggage bags," said Mr. Liksutov.
Since the terrorist bombing at the St. Petersburg metro station, security in public areas has been tightened by 200% across Russia. In Moscow alone, in April, security personnel checked more than 5.3 million passengers and 100 thousand pieces of luggage with special technical equipment.
