Security measures have been strengthened to ensure readiness for all situations at subway stations throughout the city. The mayor advised residents and tourists not to bring large bags into public places during the holidays.
The Deputy Mayor said that during the May holiday, the frequency of checks at subway stations increased by 60%, with 500,000 police officers assigned to patrol duties.
"Checking passengers at subway stations requires 1,000 security personnel every day. On average, each officer checks 200 passengers and 100 suspicious bags," said Liksutov.
Since the terrorist bombing at the St. Petersburg subway station, security across Russia has been tightened by 200% in public areas. In Moscow alone, in April, security personnel inspected more than 5.3 million passengers and 100,000 pieces of luggage using specialized equipment.
