(Baonghean.vn) - After the outbreak of foot-and-mouth disease in livestock occurred in the area, Quynh Luu district promptly directed people to vaccinate against the disease, thus controlling the spread.

Accordingly, on April 21, some households in Hamlet 7, Quynh My Commune noticed that their cows had poor appetite; drooled a lot with foam; and had blister-like inflammation on the gums, nose, and hoof. In response to the above incident, 3 households with a total herd of 10 cows suspected of having the disease reported the news to local authorities.

On the morning of April 22, the District Veterinary Station directly inspected and reported to the District People's Committee and the Provincial Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Medicine to take preventive measures. On April 23 and 24, the Provincial Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Medicine provided the locality with 460 doses of vaccine to vaccinate 350 cows in the area. In addition, 48 liters of chemicals were provided to spray in areas with epidemics and areas with the potential to spread to prevent the disease.

During the foot-and-mouth disease outbreak, the District Veterinary Station directed people to regularly sprinkle lime powder and disinfect around the barns; especially not to graze in the fields or sell meat to avoid spreading the disease. Thanks to good inspection and prevention work, the epidemic situation has been controlled, 10 cows infected with foot-and-mouth disease have recovered.

Quynh Luu is a district with a large livestock herd of over 50,000, of which over 26,000 are buffaloes and cows, and over 25,000 are pigs. Therefore, to prevent diseases, especially foot-and-mouth disease in livestock, local authorities and livestock farmers need to comply with vaccination procedures and proactively prevent diseases right from when the animals are young.
