(Baonghean.vn) - After an outbreak of foot-and-mouth disease in livestock in the area, Quynh Luu district promptly directed local people to vaccinate their animals, thus controlling the spread of the disease.

Accordingly, on April 21st, several households in Hamlet 7, Quynh My Commune, noticed that their cattle were showing signs of poor appetite; excessive foamy saliva; and blistering inflammation on the gums, nostrils, and hooves. Following this, three households with a total of 10 cattle suspected of being infected reported the situation to the local authorities.

On the morning of April 22nd, the District Veterinary Station directly inspected the area and reported to the District People's Committee and the Provincial Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Medicine to implement preventive measures. Over the two days of April 23rd and 24th, the Provincial Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Medicine provided the locality with 460 doses of vaccine to inoculate 350 cows in the area. In addition, 48 liters of disinfectant were provided for spraying in affected areas and areas with potential for spread to prevent further outbreaks.

During the foot-and-mouth disease outbreak, the District Veterinary Station instructed people to regularly sprinkle lime powder and disinfect around livestock pens; in particular, they were not allowed to graze cattle in the fields or sell them for slaughter to prevent the spread of the disease. Thanks to effective inspection and control measures, the disease was brought under control, and 10 cows infected with foot-and-mouth disease have recovered.

Quynh Luu district has a large livestock population of over 50,000 animals, including over 26,000 buffaloes and cows, and over 25,000 pigs. Therefore, to prevent diseases, especially foot-and-mouth disease in livestock, local authorities and livestock farmers need to adhere to vaccination procedures and proactively prevent and control diseases from a young age.
