Twenty-three more customs officials have been prosecuted.
All 23 defendants were former leaders, managers, and specialists of the Ha Tien International Border Gate Customs Sub-Department and the Giang Thanh National Border Gate Customs Sub-Department (Kien Giang province).

On the afternoon of June 8th, Mr. Nguyen Huu Tuong, Deputy Director of the People's Procuracy of Kien Giang province, announced that the agency had approved the decision to prosecute 23 former leaders, managers, and specialists of the Ha Tien International Border Gate Customs Sub-department and the Giang Thanh National Border Gate Customs Sub-department for the crime of negligence causing serious consequences. Currently, all of them are out on bail.
According to Mr. Tuong, the 23 customs officers who have just been prosecuted are involved in a case of misappropriating over 110 billion VND in tax refunds carried out by Tran Huu Tho (residing in Vinh Dieu commune, Giang Thanh district) along with his son-in-law Vo Thanh Tuyen and several other individuals from 2010 to July 2013.
These individuals were tried in 2015, with the highest sentence being life imprisonment for Tran Huu Tho.
Regarding this case, the People's Court of Kien Giang province previously tried and sentenced 10 defendants, all former customs officers of the Ha Tien International Border Gate and Giang Thanh National Border Gate Customs Branches, to prison terms ranging from 2 to 4 years for the crime of "negligence causing serious consequences" under Clause 2, Article 285 of the Penal Code.
