According to the Globe and Mail, the sniper used a McMillan TAC-50 sniper rifle from a distance of 3.45 km.

At such a long distance, the bullet would have had to travel 10 seconds before reaching its target and taking out the Islamic militant. This impressive feat was verified by video and cross-referenced with data obtained by the Canadian military.

The commander did not name the sniper for security reasons.
