It is worth mentioning that the new First Lady of France’s outfit was borrowed from a famous fashion house. Furthermore, Mr. Macron himself only wore a suit that cost less than 500 USD.
This information was revealed by Mr. Macron's staff, and is seen as an effort to affirm the new leader's difference from the "flashy" political world often seen in France.
Looking back, when he was still popular, Mr. Macron's conservative opponent Francois Fillon in the presidential campaign was "unlucky" to be involved in many financial scandals, including a gift that this politician received from a wealthy businessman: 2 hand-made suits worth about 13,000 euros.
Given that polls show that one of the top qualities French voters look for in a president is honesty, Macron's choice of outfit for the big day seemed to signal that he would be different from his predecessors.
Previously, former conservative President Nicolas Sarkozy, who led France from 2007 to 2012, was nicknamed “President Glamour” because of his extravagant lifestyle.
Macron's predecessor, Francois Hollande, tried to build an image as a "people's president", but was heavily criticized for spending nearly 10,000 euros a month on his personal barber.
