Shariah Edwards received scholarships totaling $7.62 million.

Shariah decided to apply based on the list given to her by Tamara Woods-Wormley, the school's college admissions counselor. "I gave Shariah a list of universities and colleges that didn't charge application fees, listed alphabetically. She then came to see me every day to get her transcripts and send them to the schools," Tamara told CBS News on May 26th.

The female student's purpose in submitting multiple applications was simply to maximize her options and secure every possible financial aid, thereby easing the burden on her family. As a result, she became a "million-dollar scholar," as the school's slogan encourages students to apply for scholarships.

According to Ms. Tamara, Power Center Academy had a total of 145 graduating students last year. The total value of scholarships they received was over $30 million, with Shariah alone receiving $7.62 million. To acknowledge their achievement, the school presented each student with a commemorative plaque clearly stating the scholarship amount at the graduation ceremony.

Shariah was accepted into schools across the United States, from Tuskegee University in Alabama to Johnson and Wales University in Rhode Island. "I didn't want to limit myself. So I researched and applied to a lot of schools. I was surprised because I never thought I'd been accepted into so many," Shariah said, adding that she is narrowing down her options, with Tennessee State University being the most promising..
