Shariah Edwards is a rare case in the US when she was accepted into 149 schools with a total scholarship value of more than 7.6 million USD.

Shariah Edwards received scholarships worth a total of $7.62 million. |
Shariah decided to submit her application using a list given to her by Tamara Woods-Wormley, the school's college admissions counselor. "I gave Shariah a list of colleges and universities that don't charge application fees, in alphabetical order from A to Z. Then she came to me every day to get her transcripts and send them to the schools," Tamara told CBS News on May 26.
The female student's purpose in sending out so many applications was simply to maximize her options and take advantage of all financial aid, helping to reduce the burden on her family. As a result, she became a "million dollar scholar" as the school's slogan still uses to encourage students to apply for scholarships.
According to Ms. Tamara, last year, Power Center Academy had a total of 145 graduates. The total value of the scholarships they received was more than 30 million USD, with Shariah alone receiving 7.62 million USD. To recognize their achievements, the school presented them with a commemorative plaque with the scholarship amount clearly stated at the graduation ceremony.
Shariah's schools are spread across the country, from Tuskegee University in Alabama to Johnson and Wales University in Rhode Island. "I didn't want to limit myself. So I researched and applied to a lot of schools. I was surprised because I never thought I would get accepted to so many schools," Shariah said, adding that she's narrowing down her options, with Tennessee State University attracting the most attention..
