Nghe An launches Food Safety Action Month 2017

(Baonghean.vn) - The 2017 Food Safety Action Month has the theme "Safe production, business and consumption of fresh food, alcohol control, and prevention of alcohol poisoning".

Attending the conference to deploy and launch the action month for food safety in 2017 were comrade Le Minh Thong - Member of the Provincial Party Committee, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee, Deputy Head of the Standing Committee of the Provincial Food Safety Steering Committee; representatives of leaders of relevant departments, agencies and localities in the province.

In 2016 and the Lunar New Year 2017, Nghe An established nearly 1,440 inspection teams, conducting inspections of nearly 29,340 establishments. Thereby, over 5,710 establishments were found to be in violation; nearly 2,730 establishments were handled for violations; 388 establishments were fined with a total of nearly 764 million VND. In 2016 and the first 3 months of 2017, the whole province had 11 cases of food poisoning, including 2 deaths.

The report of the Nghe An Province Food Safety Department stated: In recent times, the work of ensuring food safety has been closely directed by the Party Committee, the government, and sectors and has achieved high efficiency. However, this work still faces many difficulties and limitations; unsafe food still appears widely on the market.

The 2017 Food Safety Action Month was organized by Nghe An province to improve the effectiveness of general management as well as public awareness. The 2017 Food Safety Action Month was launched by Nghe An province with the theme "Safe production, business and consumption of fresh food; alcohol control, alcohol poisoning prevention" and will be implemented from April 15 to May 15.

At the launching ceremony, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Le Minh Thong stated: This is a peak period for ensuring food safety, aiming to raise awareness and behavior of people, establishments, and organizations producing and trading safe food.

All levels and sectors must focus on communication to warn of the harmful effects, prevent the use of chemicals or industrial alcohol in alcohol production, the use of banned substances in animal husbandry; strictly control the level of pesticide residues in vegetables, fruits and chemical residues, antibiotics, and microbial contamination in meat and farmed aquatic products. Strengthen inspection and examination to strictly handle violations in the field of food safety./.
