(Baonghean.vn) - Several farms and family farms in Thanh Chuong (Nghe An) are raising chickens.Linking. This approach gradually yields practical results.

After the local authorities implemented the New Rural Development program and carried out land consolidation, Mr. and Mrs. Phan Van Tham in Hoa Son hamlet, Thanh Hoa commune (Thanh Chuong district) boldly bid for land in the high-altitude, remote areas, and added nearly 2 hectares of land at the foot of Nu mountain, bordering Phong Thinh commune, to establish a chicken farm.

With a modest initial capital of about 40 million VND, the couple gradually built their farm, purchased breeding stock, and established a flock of native chickens. After two years, when the farm had over 1,000 laying hens and had sold over 20 tons of chicken meat, Thanh Chuong district launched a project and established a Chicken Farming Association, aiming to build a collective brand "Thanh Chuong chicken." Mr. Tham and his wife quickly registered to participate.

Thanks to the right initial step of focusing on raising only native chicken breeds such as Ri and Coc, which suited market demand, and aiming to build the Thanh Chuong chicken brand, Mr. Tham's farm was selected by the Poultry Farming Association as a breeding partnership point.

When the district selected him as a breeding site for native chickens, Mr. Tham continued to invest in a system of chicken coops and incubators; he hired veterinary officers and three permanent workers to care for and expand the flock.

He also receives 20 million VND annually from the district to build a flock of 300 standard breeding chickens, serving member farms of the Poultry Farming Association. To ensure a quality breeding stock, he divides the farm into several separate plots for raising broiler chickens and breeding chickens.

Recently, with the support of the Provincial Women's Union, the Thanh Chuong Women's Association established a chicken farming cooperative club and implemented the "turning waste into breeding stock" program, local branches of the association have joined forces to raise chickens.

In addition to the native breed of chickens raised by members of the Poultry Farming Association, the farm also raises over 2,500 other breeds of chickens to supply the market within and outside the district. In a year, the farm sells nearly 200,000 chicks.

Commenting on the results of the integrated chicken farming program, Mr. Le Dinh Thanh, Vice Chairman of the Thanh Chuong District People's Committee, said: "In the context of the district having developed the project 'Developing some livestock associated with brand building and product consumption in the period 2016 - 2020', with many supporting mechanisms and policies, it will be very favorable for households to develop integrated farms raising native chickens."

Thanks to the successful implementation of contracts, not only are the poultry farmers' association guaranteeing the purchase of their products, but they have also established many other collaborative partnerships.
